「やちむん(雅器睦 / Yachimun)」在沖繩方言裡意指陶器。雅器睦之里(Yachimun之里)是傳統工藝品的產地,位於沖繩本島西海岸地區的讀谷村內。在約500公尺的森林開墾地上,分散著20間左右以陶藝為主的工坊。可以觀摩師傅們專注製陶的樣貌,還能在藝廊購買作品。

這個鄉里綠意滿盈,與紅瓦屋頂相互輝映,沖繩特有的美景盡展於前,即便是對陶器不感興趣的人,也能愜意享受散步之樂。

沖繩陶藝的根源可追溯至距今約400年前,琉球王朝時期,在國王的命令之下,陶藝工匠們聚集至現在的那霸市壺屋。但於1970年代,窯爐排出的煙害成了嚴重的社會問題,以具沖繩首位人間國寶之稱享譽全球的金城次郎先生為首,對柴窯燒陶有所堅持的工匠們移至此地居住。現為沖繩規模最大的陶器之里,魅力至極,征服了許多陶器迷。

登窯

說到雅器睦之里(Yachimun之里),特殊階梯狀的「登窯」最值得一看。登窯的燒成是於最低階投柴加溫,讓熱空氣徐徐上升,最後到達最高點。內部連接數間窯室,各窯室皆設置了用來調整溫度的投柴口。一旦開始燒製便不可中斷,需三天三夜守在窯前看顧窯火,因此純熟的燒造技巧與耐性缺一不可。

會搬離那霸市壺屋這塊熟悉的土地,不辭辛勞忍耐艱苦的作業,堅持使用登窯燒陶,其實也有其理由。就算是相同造型,也會因窯火接觸坯體時的方向與角度,呈現不同的風格,能夠燒製出更加鮮豔富有魅力的陶器。
